Initiatives RTAMS

The internet has changed the way people find information on everything from movie times to stock quotes. Now that includes public transportation, thanks to the development of the RTA’s Regional Transportation Asset Management System (RTAMS) web-based data warehouse.

Project Goal: The RTA wanted to package the wealth of data about our transit system so that transportation professionals, elected officials, advocacy groups and the public could easily find information about how transportation is funded, planned, and used in northeastern Illinois. On the RTAMS web site, users can:

  • Examine the  RTA transit system from both regional and localized perspectives
  • Search and cross-reference RTAMS’s data sets, including bus routes, rail stations, rail lines, current and historical ridership, planning studies, transit sales tax revenues and political jurisdictions
  • Utilize an interactive map containing over 30 spatial data layers including all transit services and stations, land use and aerial photography

RTAMS was developed by the RTA in coordination with the CTA, Metra, Pace and the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (formerly Chicago Area Transportation Study (CATS) and the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission (NIPC)) and the University of Illinois - Chicago (UIC).

We are continually searching for other partners to add new content and expand the web site capabilities.

You can access RTAMS at www.rtams.org. Users are required to create an RTAMS account through a simple online form.
