Summer Events and Festivals Mean Fun in RTA Region

July 30, 2014

RTA Trip Planner Offers Easy Way to Plan Routes

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is continuing to remind riders that the fastest and most convenient way to get around this summer is by taking transit.  The fun is just a short ride away on a bus or train and a great way to enjoy family time, meet friends at an event or just enjoy our great city.

Featured weekend events:

  • Food Truck Frenzy(August 1) - Check out this food truck bonanza at the Fred P. Hall Amphitheater in Palatine and choose from a variety of fun foods, including pancakes, pizza, cupcakes and ice cream. Head over to the Ogilvie Transportation Center, jump on Metra's Union Pacific Northwest Line and get off at the Palatine stop.  You’ll be within walking distance.
  • Lollapalooza (August 1 - 3) - Enjoy the festivities at Chicago’s Grant Park, filled with three days of musical headlines like Eminem, Outkast, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, among dozens of other big acts. Take the CTA's Green, Brown, Orange, Pink or Red Line and exit at Lake St., or take any of the CTA express buses like the #6 Jackson Park Express and get off at the Wacker Dr. and Columbus Dr. stop to put you at the center of this musical attraction.
  • Destination Asia Summer Festival(August 2 - 3) - Be among the hundreds at theMorton Arboretum in Lisle to explore the cultures of Asia through live music, dance performances and Asian-inspired fare. Take the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Line at Union Station and get off at the Lisle stop. You will be steps away from the festivities.

“Our transit system is the best way to reach your favorite destinations, whether it’s planning a mid-week visit to the museum, enjoying a night out for dinner or participating with hundreds of concert goers at one of the many free performances held at Chicago’s Grant Park,” said Acting RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden.

Riders can use the RTA’s Trip Planner to plan travel and select routes with ADA accessible services when necessary.  It is the only online site in the region that provides a variety of options for getting around our region, including transit, walking, bicycling and driving.
