Wicker Park Summer Events and Festivals Mean Fun in RTA Region

July 25, 2014

RTA Trip Planner Offers Easy Way to Plan Routes

Chicago – The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is continuing to remind riders that the fastest and most convenient way to get around this summer is by taking transit.  The fun is just a short ride away on a bus or train and a great way to enjoy family time, meet friends at an event or just enjoy our great city.

Featured weekend events:

  • DuPage County Fair (July 24 -27) - Be among the more than 100,000 people expected to attend this 60th annual bash, featuring a beer and wine tasting, a demolition derby, livestock exhibits, a monster truck show, a rodeo and live music. Head over to Ogilve Station and jump on the Metra Union Pacific West Line; get off at the Wheaton stop and you’re within walking distance from the DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton.
  • Taste of Lincoln Avenue (July 26 - 27) - Get your taste buds ready for a weekend of diverse flavors and dishes, featuring more than 250 vendors, musical acts, a kids’ carnival, petting zoo, pony rides and more. Take the CTA's Red, Brown or Purple Line and get off at the Fullerton Avenue stop to enjoy this food fest. The festival is on North Lincoln Avenue between Fullerton Avenue and Wrightwood Avenue.
  • Wicker Park Fest (July 26 – 27) - Enjoy this festival, featuring some of the best food and music Chicago can offer. Take the CTA's Blue Line to the Damen Avenue stop or the CTA #50 Damen Avenue bus and get off at Damen Avenue/Milwaukee Avenue to be in the middle of this weekend’s festivities. The fest is on Milwaukee Avenue between North Avenue and Paulina Street.

“Our transit system is the best way to reach your favorite destinations, whether it’s planning a mid-week visit to the museum, enjoying a night out for dinner or participating with hundreds of concert goers at one of the many free performances held at Chicago’s Grant Park,” said Acting RTA Executive Director Leanne Redden.

Riders can use the RTA’s Trip Planner to plan travel and select routes with ADA accessible services when necessary.  It is the only online site in the region that provides a variety of options for getting around our region, including transit, walking, bicycling and driving.
