About RTA

The Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) is the unit of local government created to oversee finances, secure fundingand to conduct transit planning for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), Metra, and Pace. The RTA also issues Reduced Fare and Ride Free permits, assesses eligibility for ADA Paratransit service, and oversees specialized travel training for people with disabilities and older adults. We service the Northeast Illinois counties of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will.

Consistent with the RTA Act and by-laws the agency is overseen by a 16-member Board of Directors . Visit the Board and Committees pages to learn more.

The RTA is led by Executive Director Leanne Redden and the RTA staff has broad expertise in transit administration, financing, planning, and programming.
