RTA Board Ok's Projects for Older Adults and Individuals with Disabilities

The RTA board today approved funding for the continuation of twelve projects that help ensure older adults and residents with disabilities have access to mobility services. These twelve projects are partially funded by the federal government through the Section 5310 Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program.

The RTA will administer a total of $14,936,856 million, including $8,756,052 in federal funds and $6,180,804 in local matches provided by project sponsors to improve and increase access to transit for older adults and people with disabilities.

These projects span the region and do everything from coordinate paratransit service in Kane County to provide persons with disabilities with greater opportunities to obtain and maintain employment through affordable transportation in DuPage County. One project would install more than 10,000 tactile signs at all CTA bus stop poles to provide information about the exact bus stop location to customers who are blind or have visual or cognitive disabilities.
