The RTA recently completed Planning Community Connections, our third annual Community Planning program implementation report. The document, which you can read here, provides an overview of how the RTA supports transit-oriented development (TOD) throughout the Chicago region.
The report summarizes the results of a two-part survey that was sent out to those communities that have partnered with the RTA in the past to complete a TOD plan. The survey had communities identify any policy changes or infrastructure improvements that were put in place to support the recommendations from their completed planning efforts. In addition, these past partners were asked to list any new developments that were approved, under construction, or completed in their study area in 2016.
Planning Community Connections specifically reported on 40 developments in 2016 with 11 being approved for construction, 20 being under construction, and 9 being completed during the course of the year. These 40 developments include 3,223 residential units, 299,311 square feet of commercial/retail space as well as 112,502 square feet of office space all located within close proximity to convenient transit service.
We encourage you to read this year’s implementation report to find out more. For additional information about the Community Planning program, please visit our website.
