The RTA Celebrates ADA Month at Abilities Expo

["July celebrates the anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) give civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. The ADA and ADAAA also assure equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities for access to businesses, employment, transportation, state and local government programs and services, and telecommunications.\n\nThe RTA is committed to assuring that riders in our region—regardless of physical ability—have access to and understand how to use the region’s transit system. Late last June, the RTA was proud to participate in Abilities Expo Chicago, an event that brings necessary products and services together under one roof for the community of people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, seniors and healthcare professionals.\n\nOur very own Linda Chamberlain, Mobility Outreach Coordinator, presented on “Getting Around Chicago Using Public Transportation.” Topics included: accessibility features available on CTA, Pace, and Metra, Ride Free/Reduced Fare programs and Ventra cards. She also covered tips on planning an accessible trip, ways to travel safely and RTA's free Travel Training Program.\n\n[gallery ids=\"/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2018/07/DhBoEW2VQAAOqm-.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2018/07/DhBoEW3UcAEkytk.jpg",",/uploads/images/blog/WP-Old/2018/07/DhBoEW3V4AArSaj.jpg","\" type=\"rectangular\"]"]
